What looks like a nice straight through alignment is spoilt by dropped kerbs in the wrong place (see #91229) and the path beyond the road being narrowed and not asphalted (see #91163).

The inevitable result of placing a barrier in the way of the path and not diverting the path directly to the forced crossing point - a worn path across the grass. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is that fence panel not meant to be inst ... [more]

So if I can stand in the middle of the road taking photos of the barrier, is the road really so dangerous that it needs the barrier?

More mysterious symbols added to the NCN1 sign.

I guess they never thought that anyone would cycle to the industrial units, so never thought to install a dropped kerb where the path meets the road. Of course, the majority of users will be going the other way, so why the turn away from ... [more]

A newly installed barrier right over the end of the path at a minor road crossing at Tweedside Park.

The vegetation needs better management on what has become a blind corner on NCN1.

Full route signs at a minor access point on NCN1, but why does the sign pointing left refer to (1)?

The dropped kerb was placed at the roundabout off to the right rather than at the entrance to the cycle path, on a road that only services the station car park.

The Abbotsford Link uses the not exactly wide footway on the south side of Tweedbank Drive, before crossing to join NCN1 on the north side at the toucan crossing.

Clear signage at the road junction of NCN1 and the Abbotford Link. The Abbotsford Link itself takes the footway on the opposite side of Tweedbank Drive.

A sign for NCN1 that doesn't have any mention of the other routes on the sign in #91184. It also is presumably not a 'No Through Road' for cycles.

Route sign for NCN1, the red spot route and Tweed cycle route.

The Southern Upland Way joins NCN1 from a woodland path. The two join back together a short distance to the south.

Temporary diversion signs for both NCN1 and "leading to NCN1". But I thought this actually was NCN1.

Waiting at the kerbside to turn right onto the railway path. The footway is signed as shared-use, but the road was fairly quiet with motor traffic when I visited, so cyclists were using the road.

The railway path leaves Winston Road on a rather steep ramp.

The bridge lighting appears to be filling up with water.

Signs for NCN1 and the Southern Upland Way. The route to Abbotsford is down a flight of steps. The route ahead shares the railway bridge with the actual railway.

The narrow path in #91163 joins a wider path that has come down a slope from Tweedbank Drive and is both NCN1 and the Southern Upland Way. Only the latter is signed as going up the ramp here. But the narrow path is the more direct route and ... [more]

The Union Suspension Bridge, built in 1820 when it was the world's longest wrought iron suspension bridge. It now carries NCN route 1 from England to Scotland.
